The Pediatric Surgery department of Square Pediatrics & Neonatology Centre has successfully removed a twisted Ovarian Cyst of a four day old baby girl Laparoscopically (2mm Needle-scope) on 24th May 2010. The child is now doing well in NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and will be discharged soon.

This is the first Needle-scope Surgery in any newborn in Square hospital and probably the first time in Bangladesh.

This unique surgery was done by Prof. Dr. Md. Kabirul Islam, MBBS, MS (Pediatric Surgery), FICS (USA), Consultant – Pediatric Surgery in Square Hospital. Prof. Kabir has more than 15 years of experience in Pediatric Surgery and also expertise in Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery. He trained in Pediatric Urology from London, UK and in Pediatric Laparoscopic Surgery from Bangalore, India. Previously he was the Head of Department of Pediatric Surgery of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and also Professor of Pediatric Surgery in Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
